Last Friday I went to see Brett Young in concert. I knew a few of his songs, and since I had never seen him live before, I wanted to see him perform when I heard he had a show at Rams Head Live! in Baltimore.
Carly's signature move: the pointing finger |
Here are some of her songs (the first one is the only one that's been released to my knowledge):
Every Little Thing
I Need a Ride Home (This was my favorite song of the night. It made me think of growing up in a small town, and how weird it will be when my parents no longer live in that house.)
If My Name Was Whiskey (don't mind the lack of subjunctive tense...)
I appreciated the Orioles cap! Also, the tour is called "Caliville" because Brett is from California but now lives in Nashville. |
Here are some of the songs he performed that night. The first two are my favorites!
In Case You Didn't Know
Sleep Without You
Like I Loved You (This is his newest hit.)
Mercy
You Ain't Here to Kiss Me
Beautiful Believer (This song was inspired by the songwriter Jon Nite, who moved to Nashville when he and his wife were just 18 years old with a baby and pretty much had no money. He kept thinking about getting a "real job," but his wife told him to continue pursuing his dream of being a songwriter, which made her his "beautiful believer." I wasn't particularly empathetic after hearing this story, since Nite should have practiced safe sex and not knocked up his girlfriend as a teenager. Then maybe he wouldn't have had to start his adult life so poor...It all worked out in the end, but I'm just saying: he could have made better decisions which would have helped ease the difficulties of trying to make it as a songwriter.)
Cover of "Hallelujah"
There were other cover songs, too! Carly sang Shania Twain's "Man, I Feel Like a Woman" and Dolly Parton's "9 to 5." Brett sang Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On," and his entire band showed off during Van Morrison's "Crazy Love." Together they performed the duet "Whiskey Lullaby." Carly totally showed him up!
Here's the original duet, sang by Alison Kraus (who has one of the best voices ever, IMHO) and Brad Paisley:
PS: Brett's guitarists were pretty hot. Think they'd be up for making a Katie Taco?
