Snowboarding & Mitchell Tenpenny

Last week I was on vacation in New Hampshire for my annual snowboarding trip. It was just my dad and me, so it was a nice Daddy-Daughter trip. It was wonderful! We stayed at my family's lake house, which is definitely our " happy place." We went snowboarding four of the days, all at Bretton Woods. We had great conditions! The slopes weren't icy, and we actually got fresh powder on a few of the days (one day we got seven inches, which was actually too much for a snowboard!). And because we only went during the week (as opposed to weekends), there were no lift lines, and it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. When we weren't outside, we were relaxing at the house; I read three books over the week (The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Call Me by Your Name, and Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda), and we watched shows on Netflix as well as movies like Shutter Island, The Hunger Games, and Masterminds. It was absolutely perfect!

Here are some photos of the other fun we had:

Since we didn't snowboard the first weekend, we went ice skating on the lake instead. SO much better than a rink!
My dad loves making ice sculptures. He was inspired to do a unicorn when we found a huge icicle on the house!

Such a cute face!

You know that if there's a unicorn that big, I'm going to ride it! Dreams do come true!
It wasn't snowing up north the day we left, but when we landed at BWI, the snow had followed us to Maryland. So I slowly but safely made my way home, and almost immediately my friend picked me up to go to the Fillmore for a country music concert. What a whirlwind!

When we got to the venue, we entered a contest with WMZQ. I missed the phone call saying I had won a meet-and-greet with the bands! Grrrr! Guess that's what I get for not being a jerk who has her phone in her face 24/7...

The first opener was Jackson Dean. I had never heard of him before, but he's local, having grown up in Odenton, MD. I liked his voice, but he definitely needs to learn to enunciate; I couldn't understand nearly a word he was singing! But I could see him growing to be pretty successful. You can hear a lot of his music on his YouTube channel. Here's one song he performed that night:

Hallelujah (cover)

Next up was a group called Seaforth, with two vocalists/guitarists and a percussionist (he sat and beat on a box thing rather than a drum set). They are originally from Australia, but now live in Nashville. They have more of a pop/crossover sound (similar to Dan + Shay), but I REALLY liked them! I wish I had bought their CD. Plus, they're pretty easy on the eyes (*mmmm*). Here are some clips:

Then Mitchell Tenpenny and his band got on stage. His song "Drunk Me" (see below) is the only reason I bought tickets to this concert. I LOVE that song! I didn't really connect with his other songs (and I was exhausted from my long travel day), but it was worth waiting until the end to hear this one. He also did a bit of a Backstreet Boys song, which I loved (and it was so sad to see young girls in the audience who didn't know the words!). Here are some videos:

Drunk Me

I Get the Picture

Alcohol You Later

Somebody Ain't You (Actually, now that I'm listening to this song, I like this one a lot.)

Mixed Drinks

Bitches (His encore song. He told us he "didn't care" if we were offended by the song. Ew.)

He also performed the song "If the Boot Fits" that Granger Smith sings (but Tenpenny wrote):

It feels like I've been up to a lot in just the past week. Whew! Next up: my stories from the 2019 Interfusion Festival (happening this weekend!).
